Sri Lanka made a strong impression at the 2025 Chinese Taipei Open Athletic Championships, securing two medals through Olympian Dilhani Lekamge and rising sprinter Chamod Yodhasinghe in a competitive field of international athletes.
Dilhani Claims Silver in Javelin Throw
Dilhani Lekamge, a seasoned campaigner and Olympian, showcased her class once again by winning the silver medal in the women’s javelin throw with a best attempt of 56.62 metres. She narrowly missed out on the gold, which went to India’s Annu Rani with a throw of 56.82 metres. The bronze medal was secured by Pin Hsun Chu of Chinese Taipei, who managed 53.03 metres.
Yodhasinghe Wins Bronze in 100m Sprint
Meanwhile, Chamod Yodhasinghe added to Sri Lanka’s medal tally by clinching the bronze medal in the men’s 100 metres. Yodhasinghe clocked 10.38 seconds in the final after a stunning performance in the heats where he won his preliminary round with a time of 10.29 seconds. Despite a slight setback in the final, his performance earned him a podium finish.
The gold medal in the 100m was won by Joseph Ayoade of Australia (10.34s), while Japan’s Brund DeDe took silver with a time of 10.36s.
Other Sri Lankan Performances
In the men’s high jump, Sri Lanka’s Lesandu Arthavidu placed sixth with a best jump of 2.05 metres, in a strong field that featured several top regional athletes.
These performances reflect Sri Lanka’s growing presence and competitiveness on the Asian athletics stage as athletes continue to build momentum ahead of major international events.
