In a stunning start to the 2025 Andriesz Shield, Old Nalanda Hockey Club (ONHC) defeated Royal College Hockey Club – A (RCHC-A) 5-2 at the Colombo International Hockey Arena. Despite the star presence of Pakistani player Waseem in the Royal College lineup, ONHC’s determination and teamwork shone through.
ONHC took an early lead with Bodika Dias scoring from a penalty corner in the second minute. Although Waseem equalized for Royal College in the 10th minute, ONHC captain Pathum Proboda restored the lead soon after. Dias scored two more goals, completing a hat-trick, while Proboda added two strikes of his own, sealing a comprehensive victory.
This result sends a strong message about the growing competitiveness of Sri Lankan club hockey, showing that teamwork and strategy can triumph over star power. The 2025 Andriesz Shield promises to be an exciting season for hockey fans.
