The Sri Lanka Air Force Women’s Hockey Team emerged victorious at the 13th Defence Services Hockey Tournament, securing the championship title with an impressive 2–0 win over the Army Women’s Team in the final.
The match, held at the Reid Avenue Hockey Grounds, saw the Air Force Women dominate with superior coordination, tactical discipline, and relentless pressure. Their cohesive play and strategic execution earned them a well-deserved victory and solidified their position as champions of this year’s tournament.
Adding to their triumph, Corporal W. I. M. P. Weerabahu of the Air Force was named Best Player in the Women’s category, recognising her exceptional skill and impact throughout the tournament.
In the Men’s category, the Air Force Team put on a valiant display in a high-stakes final against the Army Men’s Team. With the score tied at 3–3 after regulation time, the match went into a tense penalty shootout. Despite their unwavering determination, the Air Force Men narrowly missed the title, falling short with a 3–1 result in the shootout, finishing as runners-up.
The tournament concluded on a high note, celebrating not only fierce competition but also the sportsmanship, teamwork, and spirit of all participating teams, particularly the outstanding performance of the Air Force athletes.
