Asia Pacific Junior Golf Tournament – Hong Kong: Algama, Weerasinghe to represent Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s rising golf stars Reshan Algama and Adhithya Weerasinghe have been selected to represent the nation at the prestigious Asia Pacific Junior Golf Tournament, scheduled to take place from May 27 to 29 at the Hong Kong Golf Club, Fanling, Old Course.

The event is one of the flagship tournaments in the junior golf calendar, featuring top young golfers from 18 countries across the region. Played over three days and 54 holes without a cut, the tournament offers valuable world ranking points and international exposure crucial for shaping future champions.

Reshan Algama, currently ranked 722nd in the world, is a seasoned junior golfer with a wealth of international experience. He has previously represented Sri Lanka in tournaments held in the Philippines, Thailand, India, UAE, USA, Japan, and most recently in Vietnam.

Adhithya Weerasinghe, a promising young talent from Anuradhapura and a student of Ananda College, is part of the Sri Lanka Golf (SLG) junior development programme, which has been instrumental in discovering and nurturing golfing talent across the island. While he is yet to make his mark in the world rankings, his exposure to international competition in India and Thailand has been pivotal in his development.

Unfortunately, Kaya Daluwatte, who was also selected for the tournament, had to withdraw due to an injury, a setback for Sri Lanka’s representation in the girls’ category.

The participation of Algama and Weerasinghe highlights the continued growth and success of junior golf in Sri Lanka. This progress is made possible by the tireless efforts of Sri Lanka Golf and the unwavering support of sponsors such as Prima, Perera & Sons, HSBC Future Lions, and more recently, DFCC Bank.

As the young golfers tee off against Asia’s finest, all eyes will be on them to showcase their talent and bring pride to Sri Lanka on the international stage.
