Sri Lankan all-rounder Dhananjaya Lakshan is poised to be named captain of the Sri Lanka Emerging Team for the upcoming tour of the West Indies, set to begin with a four-day game on June 7 in Antigua.
The 26-year-old Lakshan, a former Richmond College captain and current Colts CC player, has previously represented Sri Lanka in three ODIs and was part of the victorious Sri Lanka team at the Hong Kong Sixes. Known for his dynamic all-round abilities, Lakshan’s recent performances in domestic tournaments have put him back in contention for a return to the national squad.
A left-handed batsman and right-arm medium pacer, Lakshan sees the Emerging Team tour as a key opportunity to make his way back into the national setup.
🧢 Promising Young Talent in the Squad
The Sri Lanka Emerging squad includes several rising stars who have already made waves in domestic and international cricket. Among them are:
- Shevon Daniel – Talented opening batsman from SSC
- Chamindu Wickramasinghe – Promising all-rounder also from SSC
- Dilum Sudheera – Wicket-taking left-arm spinner with strong domestic performances
The West Indies tour includes two four-day matches and three 50-over matches, all to be played in Antigua. With both red-ball and white-ball formats on the schedule, the tour is seen as a vital platform for grooming the next generation of Sri Lankan cricket stars.
🇱🇰✈️ The tour not only strengthens international experience for young players but also boosts Sri Lanka’s long-term cricket development strategy.
