Sri Lanka Gears Up for 26th Asian Athletics Championships 2025 in South Korea


Gumi, South Korea – May 24, 2025

Team Sri Lanka is set to make a strong presence at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships 2025, scheduled to be held from 27th to 31st May in Gumi, South Korea. With a contingent of talented athletes and experienced officials, Sri Lanka is aiming for podium finishes across multiple track and field events.

The team features several medal hopefuls, including national champions and seasoned international performers. Among the key athletes are:

  • Nadeesha Ramanayake – competing in the 400m and 4x400m relay
  • Dilhani Lekamge – spearheading the javelin throw and serving as the female team captain
  • Sumedha Ranasinghe – leading the men’s javelin team and acting as the male team captain
  • S. Aruna Darshana – competing in the 400m and 4x400m relay
  • Yupun Abeykoon – Sri Lanka’s sprint sensation in the 100m and 200m (not in photograph)
  • Kalinga Kumarage – participating in the 400m and 4x100m relay (not in photograph)

Team Officials accompanying the squad include:

  • Saman Kumara Gunawardana – Secretary General of Sri Lanka Athletics
  • Irangani Rupasinghe – Team Manager
  • Coaches: I.M. Ranaainghe, Tony Prasanna, and Lal Wijewickrama
  • Jagath Bandara – Team Masseur

The full squad consists of athletes across various disciplines including sprints, middle-distance, relays, javelin throw, high jump, and long-distance events. Notable names include:

  • Omel de Silva, Jithma Wijethunga, Sadew Rajakaruna, and Kalhara Indupa – 4x400m relay
  • Meron Wijesinghe, Dineth Weeraratne, Chamod Dissanayake, and Kalinga Kumarage – 4x100m relay
  • Sayuri Mendis and Jayeahi Uththara – women’s 4x400m relay
  • Chamod Yodasinghe – 100m
  • Rasara Wijesuriya – 5000m & 10,000m
  • Lesandu Arthavidu – High Jump
  • Rumesh Tharanga – Javelin
  • Nishendra Fernando – 400m & 4x400m
