Isipathana College pulled off a sensational last-minute try to defeat Trinity College and retain their title in the President’s Trophy Knockout final. The defending champions secured a narrow win with a goal and a try, edging past Trinity’s two penalties and a drop goal in a nail-biting finish.
Leading 7-6 at half-time, Isipathana held firm under relentless pressure and showed remarkable composure in the dying moments to seal their 15th knockout title — and their fourth consecutive President’s Trophy triumph.
The final was a fiercely contested battle, defined by aggressive defence and high-octane rugby. Trinity looked poised to break Isipathana’s streak, but the Green Machine dug deep to turn the tide at the death.
Trinity’s hopes suffered an early blow when centre Sadeesha Weerawansa was shown a yellow card in the 8th minute for an off-the-ball tackle, leaving them a man down for ten minutes. Isipathana capitalised on the numerical advantage, laying the groundwork for their eventual comeback.
The victory reaffirms Isipathana’s dominance in schools’ rugby and cements their status as the top knockout team in the country.
