South Africa Women ended their campaign of the Sri Lanka Women’s ODI Tri-Series tournament on a winning note with a consolation 76-run win over host Sri Lanka Women in the last round robin match played at R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.
Sri Lanka batters chasing a formidable 316 were given a good start by openers Harshitha Samarawickrama and Hasini Perera but failed to keep up the momentum.
Apart from a half ton by skipper Chamari Athapaththu and an unbeaten 43 by Anushka Sanjeewani, the others failed to make any impression as they succumbed to left arm spinner Chloe Tryon who bagged five wickets and muster only 239.
Earlier, South Africa batters invited to take first lease of the wicket was given a sound start of 68 runs by openers Laura Wolvardt and Tazmin Brits but they fell into deep trouble as they lost four quick wickets for the addition of just 18 runs and slid to 85 for five in the 20th over with spinner Dewmi Vihanga doing the damage.
They recovered thanks to Annerie Dercksen who made a quick fire 84 with nine boundaries, sharing two partnerships of 42 runs for the sixth wicket and 127 for the seventh wicket with Chloe Tryon who made 74 with four boundaries and five sixes as they made 315 for eight.
Sri Lanka will now meet India in the final scheduled to be played tomorrow at the same same venue.
