The annual South West Monsoon Meet 2025 commenced with great enthusiasm at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC), attracting more than 150 golfers to compete in the four-day tournament
The Calcutta Medal, contested on nett scores, saw an outstanding performance by Gihan Wickramasinghe, who carded an impressive 58 nett to claim the title. Jagath Gunawardena secured the runner-up position with a strong 63 nett, setting the stage for his success in subsequent events.
Gunawardena bounced back in the Victoria Cup, maintaining consistent form over two rounds with scores of 63 and 71 nett. His aggregate of 134 nett earned him the championship, while Wickramasinghe, despite a stellar opening round of 58, slipped to second place after a 78 in the second round, finishing with 136 nett.
In the Squadron Cup, Prof. Deepal Weerasekera emerged victorious with a four-round total of 281 nett, posting steady rounds of 64, 65, 75, and 77. Adrian Pereira, who recorded the event’s lowest single-round score of 68, finished closely behind in second place with 283 nett.
The Aggregate Gold Medal, based on gross scores, was claimed by Kumar Danushan, who demonstrated consistency with rounds of 69, 79, 73, and 73, totaling 294. W.A.K. Fernando put up a spirited challenge, finishing second with a gross score of 317.
The ladies’ competition in the Centenary Plate was dominated by Keya Abhayaratne, who impressed with back-to-back rounds of 68 for a total of 136 nett. Runner-up Dhinuka Boralessa delivered solid performances with two rounds of 70.
The South West Monsoon Meet once again highlighted the skill and competitive spirit of Sri Lanka’s golfing community.
