The stage is set for a blockbuster showdown at Roland Garros as World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka takes on World No. 2 Coco Gauff in the French Open 2025 women’s final, marking the first Grand Slam final between the top two ranked women since 2018.
Sabalenka, fresh off a stunning semifinal win over defending champion Iga Swiatek, is aiming to capture her first French Open title and fourth Grand Slam overall. She delivered a clinical performance in the semifinal, routing Swiatek 6-0 in the deciding set to snap the Pole’s 26-match winning streak at Roland Garros.
“Winning this title would mean the world to me,” Sabalenka said. “I’m ready to fight for every point.”
This will be Sabalenka’s first major final on a surface other than hard court, having previously won titles at the Australian and US Opens.
Gauff Targets Second Grand Slam Title
American star Coco Gauff, ranked No. 2, enters her second French Open final and her first since claiming the 2023 US Open. Gauff defeated Sabalenka in that US Open final, despite trailing by a set, to capture her maiden Grand Slam title.
Now 20, Gauff has been one of the most consistent performers at Roland Garros, reaching at least the quarterfinals in each of the last five years.
“Playing Sabalenka again in a Grand Slam final is exciting,” Gauff said. “We’ve had some incredible battles, and I’m ready for another one.”
Their head-to-head record is evenly matched at 5-5, with Sabalenka winning their most recent encounter in the Madrid Open final on clay.
A Final for the Ages
This year’s women’s final adds to a historic weekend in Paris, with both men’s and women’s finals featuring the world’s top two players — a rarity last seen at Roland Garros in 1984.
