PARIS, June 7 – Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the French Open 2025 final after Italian eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti retired with a thigh injury during the fourth set of their semi-final at Roland Garros.
Alcaraz, the 22-year-old Spanish second seed, was leading 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-0, 2-0 when Musetti called an end to the match following treatment on his right thigh.
“It’s never fair. I want to win, but not like this,” said Alcaraz after the match. “Lorenzo is a great player and I hope he recovers quickly.”
Competitive Start Before Injury Blow
The opening two sets showcased some of the best clay-court tennis of the season, with both players exchanging intense rallies and testing each other’s limits. Musetti claimed the first set 6-4 before Alcaraz battled back to win the second in a tiebreak.
From there, the match shifted dramatically. Alcaraz hit his stride and stormed through the third set 6-0, as Musetti appeared to struggle physically. After a medical timeout between sets, Musetti played two more games before retiring.
Alcaraz Eyes Fifth Grand Slam Title
With this result, Carlos Alcaraz—already a four-time Grand Slam champion—reaches his second straight Roland Garros final, as he aims to defend the title he won last year. The Spaniard will face either World No. 1 Jannik Sinner or Novak Djokovic, depending on the outcome of the other semi-final.
