Novak Djokovic moved one step closer to a record 25th Grand Slam title with a commanding straight-sets victory over Britain’s Cameron Norrie at the French Open. The 38-year-old Serbian legend triumphed 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 to book his place in the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.
Norrie, ranked 81st in the world, had made headlines in the opening round by knocking out 11th seed Daniil Medvedev. But despite a spirited effort—particularly in the second set where he briefly held a break lead—he was unable to sustain pressure on the sixth-seeded Djokovic.
“I was a little bit flat in some moments, and I think that was the difference,” said Norrie after the match. “I don’t see too much evolution with Novak—he’s still not missing tennis balls.”
Djokovic, seeking to surpass Margaret Court’s all-time Grand Slam singles record, will face third seed Alexander Zverev next. The German got the better of Djokovic in their previous encounter at this year’s Australian Open semi-final, where the Serb struggled with a hamstring issue.
With Jack Draper’s four-set defeat to Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik later in the day, British hopes in the singles competition at Roland Garros have come to an end.
Djokovic now looks firmly on course for another deep run in Paris, as he aims to etch his name even deeper into tennis history.
