Sumedha and Rumesh qualify for Javelin final

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga and Sumedha Ranasinghe Qualify for Javelin Final at Asian Athletics Championships

Sri Lankan javelin throwers Rumesh Tharanga and Sumedha Ranasinghe have qualified for the men’s javelin throw final at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships, held in Gumi, South Korea.

Rumesh Tharanga impressed with a throw of 83.71 metres, while Olympian and national record holder Sumedha Ranasinghe cleared 81.33 metres, securing their places among the top 12 finalists.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, the Olympic gold medallist, topped the qualification round with a distance of 86.34 metres. The top four performers in the qualifiers were:

  1. Arshad Nadeem (Pakistan) – 86.34m
  2. Rumesh Tharanga (Sri Lanka) – 83.71m
  3. Yuto Sakiyama (Japan) – 81.36m
  4. Sumedha Ranasinghe (Sri Lanka) – 81.33m

The final is expected to be a highly competitive event, with strong representation from across Asia.
