D. S. Senanayake College and St. Anthony’s College, Kandy, are set to face off in a thrilling rugby encounter for the prestigious Alles Cup, highlighting the enduring rivalry between two historic schools.

D. S. Senanayake, on the path to celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2026, has witnessed a strong resurgence in recent years. Their resurgence included a triple championship win in 2022 and a return to Division ‘A’ rugby in 2023. The school has also produced two national players—Jayantha Rajaratne and Dipnua Seneviratne.

St. Anthony’s boasts a rugby tradition dating back to 1856 and achieved a landmark moment when they won the schools’ rugby league title in 2001. The college has been a breeding ground for top national talent, including Priyantha Ekanayake, Pradeep Liyanage, Dhanushka Dayan, Imran Bisthamin, Leroy Fonseka, Nihal ‘Viper’ Gunaratne, Dinuk Amarasinghe, and Samuel Maduwantha.

The main match will be preceded by junior games in the Under-12, Under-14, and Under-16 categories. The Under-16 match will be played for the Madura Wickramaratne Trophy, named in honour of a distinguished old boy of D. S. Senanayake College.
