Sri Lanka to Face Brunei and Chinese Taipei in Crucial June Fixtures

The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) has officially announced that the Sri Lanka National Football Team will play two international fixtures during the upcoming FIFA international window in June.

The first match is set for June 5 against Brunei, and will be held in Thailand following a two-week intensive training camp in Bangkok. With a full-strength squad expected to take the field, Sri Lanka will be eyeing a morale-boosting win to improve their position in the FIFA World Rankings.

The second encounter, deemed a high-stakes clash, will take place on June 10 in Colombo against Chinese Taipei. This game is part of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers – Final Round, and could prove decisive in Sri Lanka’s bid to make a mark in continental football.

The team’s preparations are in full swing under a comprehensive training programme, reflecting the progress and ambition under the leadership of FFSL President Jaswar Umar. Since assuming office, Umar has overseen a remarkable rise in Sri Lanka’s global football ranking—from 207th to 200th in just eight months—earning recognition from international football observers.

However, Sri Lanka will be without Head Coach Abdullah Almutairi, who is serving a suspension from a previous match. In his absence, interim coaching support will be provided by experts from Qatar’s Aspire Academy and the Kuwait Football Association.

The home fixture at the Racecourse International Stadium is expected to draw a capacity crowd, offering strong support for the national team as they return to competitive action on home turf.

In current FIFA rankings, Sri Lanka stands at 200th, while their upcoming opponents Brunei and Chinese Taipei are ranked 185th and 166th respectively.
