Lankan women need to improve their batting, says skipper Chamari

We need to improve our batting and also need some power hitters, but work needs to be done before the World Cup said Sri Lanka women’s cricket skipper Chamari Athapaththu after the Tri Nation women’s cricket fixture final which India won by 97 runs at the R.Premadasa International stadium on Sunday .

India dominated this final with a superb all round performance when they proved their strong batting line up can give good challenge against any team .The left hand opener Smriti Mandana was outstanding with a superb century followed by Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues and also hit useful knocks followed by superb bowling from off spinner Sneh Rana who finished with 4 wickets haul to take player of the series award having 15 wickets in 4 matches .

Skipper Chamari Athapaththu further said India made 342 in their 50 overs and 300 plus target was not easy to chase, we fought hard but we dropped some catches, and missed some run outs as well and that caused them to go for big score .

Even our bowling unit struggled in the middle overs, but Smriti Mandana batted really well and middle order batters maintain good momentum .We have to improve our fielding, we dropped catches and missed run out chances throughout the tournament and this was the key area to work hard .

SLC is trying to get new fielding coaches as well, so we need to work on it. We also need to improve ourbatting and before the world cup we wanted to prepare with the support of our coaches added Athapaththu who also hit 2 fifties but shd couldn’t convert it to big total .
