Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) yesterday unveiled a state-of-the-art eight-lane swimming pool at the National High-Performance Centre (HPC), located at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
The new facility was officially declared open by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Sunil Kumara Gamage, upon the invitation of Shammi Silva, President of SLC.
The occasion was graced by several distinguished guests including Deputy Minister of Sports, Sugath Thilakaratne and Anuradha Illeperuma, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Chamari Atapattu, captain of the national Women’s team, and members of the national team took part in the opening.
This cutting-edge swimming pool, built as part of SLC’s National Pathway Programme, measures 25 metres in length and 21 metres in width with a depth ranging from 1.2 to 1.8 metres.
It will serve the Sri Lanka National Teams, ‘A’ Team, and National Fast and Spin Bowling
Squads — supporting player fitness, post-match recovery and injury rehabilitation.
Additionally, the facility will be available to visiting international teams during tours of Sri Lanka.
The pool complex is equipped with modern male and female changing rooms, first aid facilities and essential amenities to ensure a professional environment for athlete care and recovery.
The HPC in Colombo now features, an international-standard cricket ground, a fully equipped gymnasium, under-lights training facilities, a dedicated physiotherapy unit and the Brain Centre for performance analysis. Upcoming additions in phase two include a Jacuzzi, an ice bath and a soon-to-be-completed indoor net facility — all part of SLC’s vision to create a world-class, comprehensive training hub.
