The Air Force Women’s handball team emerged champions at the National Handball Championship 2025, held at the Army Cantonment in Panagoda.
The tournament featured top-tier teams from across the country, displaying a high level of competition and sportsmanship.
Demonstrating remarkable skill, cohesion and determination throughout the tournament, the Air Force Women’s Team stood out as a formidable force.
The final match took place at the same venue, where the Air Force women’s team secured the championship title following a hard-fought battle against the Army team, winning 35-18 in the final.
The championship was conducted in accordance with the official regulations of the Sri Lanka Handball Federation.
Cpl Purnima Erandi was named Best Player of the Tournament while Hiruni Rashmika earned the Best Defensive Player.
Isuri Fernando was awarded the Best Goal-keeper and Navanjana Ranasinghe was recognised as the Best Attacker.
The awards ceremony was held following the final match and was graced by the presence of the President of the Sri Lanka Handball Federation, Upali Rajapakse, as the Chief Guest. Also in attendance were the Secretary General of the Sri Lanka Handball Federation Chinthaka Mayadunne, the Chairman of Air Force Handball, Air Vice-Marshal Ranjith Jayawardena, representing Sri Lanka Army, Major General L. K. T. Fernando and other distinguished guests and dignitaries.
